A Escola Nacional de Circo (ENC) ocupa posição estratégica no âmbito da Fundação Nacional de Artes (Funarte). Referência para toda a América Latina na área da formação profissional em circo, a Escola tem a missão institucional de preservar e ampliar a arte circense através do ensino regular e sistêmico. Partindo do princípio de que a construção do conhecimento é dinâmica, a ENC mantém diálogo com a produção pedagógica e artística presente no mundo do Circo, sendo impulsionada por sua intensa mutação e evolução nos aspectos tecnológicos, instrumentais e gerenciais.
Criada pelo circense Luiz Olimecha e pelo produtor cultural Orlando Miranda, a ENC foi inaugurada em 1982. Desde então, desenvolve a formação de alunos/artistas para atuar não apenas no picadeiro do circo itinerante de lona, mas em uma ampla gama de segmentos culturais. A experiência pedagógica na formação em Circo originou uma metodologia própria da instituição, que vem sendo aperfeiçoada ao longo do tempo, com foco no desenvolvimento da criatividade e da experimentação.
A partir de 2015, o Curso Técnico em Arte Circense foi reconhecido oficialmente, pelo Ministério da Educação, como curso técnico, em uma parceria institucional entre a ENC/Funarte e o Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ). O fato consolida o programa de formação da ENC, para atender à crescente demanda por profissionais capazes de trabalhar nos diversos setores que envolvem as artes do Circo, tais como: espetáculos performáticos, festivais e eventos culturais em geral.
A produção deste livro em formato bilíngue (Português e Inglês) reforça o caráter internacional da atuação da Escola Nacional de Circo. A ENC faz parte do desenvolvimento das artes circenses no Brasil e no mundo, através de suas muitas colaborações com parceiros internacionais ao longo dos anos. Na época dos espetáculos de formatura (2017), que constituem o tema desta obra, a ENC comemorava 35 anos realizando, mais uma vez, uma bem sucedida experiência criativa.

The National Circus School (ENC) has a strategic position into the National Arts Foundation (Funarte). The School is a reference in the area of professional circus training for all Latin America, and its institutional mission is to preserve and expand the circus art through regular and systemic education. ENC keeps a dialogue with the pedagogical and artistic production of the circus world, assuming the dynamism of the knowledge construction and being driven by the intense mutation and evolution in the technological, instrumental and managerial aspects existing in it.
The National Circus School was founded in 1982, created by the circus artist Luiz Olimecha and the cultural producer Orlando Miranda. Since then, it has developed the training and preparation of students/artists to work not only in the itinerant circus itself but also in a wide range of cultural segments. The pedagogical experience in the Circus professional training originated the methodology of the institution, which has been upgraded over time, focusing on the development of creativity and experimentation.
From 2015, the Technical Course in Circus Arts was officially recognized by the Ministry of Education as a technical course, throughout an institutional partnership between ENC/Funarte and the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ). This event strengthened ENC’s training program to attend the growing demand for professionals capable of working in the various sectors of the circus arts, such as performance spectacles, festivals and cultural events in general.
The production of this bilingual book (Portuguese and English) reinforces the international engagement of the National Circus School. ENC plays its part on the development of the circus arts in Brazil and the world through its many collaborations with international partners over the years. At the time of the graduation performances (2017), which are the theme of this work, the National Circus School celebrated 35 years, once again performing a successful creative experience.
